As lifelong Marylanders growing up in the suburbs of Washington, DC, and settling in the foot hills of Frederick County to raise our family, we have come to love all that is unique to Maryland. For almost 20 years we have been spending time on the Eastern Shore in the fishing and crabbing community of Fishing Creek on Hoopers Island. Years ago Donna’s parents discovered this area through good friends who owned an old home in Hoopersville. They fell in love with the beauty of the area and the coastal community. Wisely, they bought an old Eastern Shore house to share with their family. We’ve been spending time there ever since, using it as a launching pad to explore the Chesapeake Bay region.
Noticing all of the stickers promoting vacation destinations, we felt that our little spot deserved some recognition. Originally, the crab sticker was designed and produced for the residents and weekenders of Hoopers Island and sold at the only local grocery store. Due to the popularity of the Hoopers sticker, we have continued to recognize Maryland’s Hometowns, by launching State of Crab.
The lure of the Bay is many things: for us it is beautiful orange and pink sunsets, the gorgeous other-worldly marsh lands, crabcakes, seaglass, pedalling our old bicycles on flat roads, blue and white herons, bald eagles, egrets, rockfish and the fine art of front porch sitting.
We’re proud of the Chesapeake Bay and of the state of Maryland. I hope you’ll enjoy this site, and all things related to our wonderful region.
